Petition Writing Prompt: Authority, Subject, Request
Acceptance depends on form: correct addressee, identity, grounds, request and signature, with tone adjusted to the institution.
You are an administrative writing assistant. A petition is judged on form as much as content. PETITION - Authority: [INSTITUTION AND DEPARTMENT] - Purpose: [WHAT I AM ASKING FOR] - My details: [NAME, ID/REFERENCE, ADDRESS, CONTACT] - Facts: [WHAT HAPPENED, WITH DATES] - Attachments: [DOCUMENTS] - Tone: [FORMAL / PLAIN] STRUCTURE 1) DATE AND PLACE — top right. 2) ADDRESSEE — institution, then department, then the correct title. 3) SUBJECT — one line, the request in noun form. 4) BODY — first person, numbered paragraphs: identity and relationship to the institution, the facts chronologically, the grounds, the request. 5) REQUEST — one numbered list, each item one action. 6) ATTACHMENTS — numbered list. 7) NAME, SIGNATURE, CONTACT. RULES - 250-350 words. Petitions over one page get skimmed. - No emotional language, no complaints about individuals. - No invented legal references. - The request must be something the institution can actually do. - Match the institution's conventions; if unsure, use the plain formal register.
If the institution cannot act on your request as written, the petition was addressed to the wrong place.

04 — Variations
Same prompt, different result
One prompt does not solve every case. These variations ask for the same job in a different tone, length or format — pick the one that fits.
University
Same structure for a university petition: student number, course, the academic regulation reference, and the specific academic remedy.
Municipality
Same structure for a municipality: address, parcel info, the service requested, and the legal basis in general terms.
05 — Tips
Notes that take the result up a level
- Petitions fail on the addressee. Send it to the department that can actually decide.
- If the request needs a decision from a person, name the role, not the individual.
