Prompt That Stops the Repetition Loop
Maps every repeat into three types — same sentence, same idea, same sentence structure — then locates where the loop began. The rewrite comes with two word counts so you can see it actually worked.
Your output repeats itself. You are saying the same thing several times in different words and it makes the text unusable.
TEXT: [TEXT]
STEP 1 — MAP THE REPETITION
Find and quote three things:
- SAME SENTENCE: verbatim or near-verbatim repeats
- SAME IDEA: one claim made twice in different words
- SAME STRUCTURE: paragraphs or bullets opening with the same formula ("Additionally...", "Moreover...")
For each finding: which sentence, how many times, where it first appeared.
STEP 2 — WHERE THE LOOP STARTED
Name the point where the repetition began in one sentence. There are usually three causes: (a) there was no new information left but you kept extending, (b) you could not finish a list and circled back, (c) the conclusion re-stated the body using the body's own sentences. Which one is it?
STEP 3 — REWRITE WITHOUT REPEATS
Rewrite the text, cutting the repeated material.
- Every piece of information appears ONCE.
- Paragraphs start with different words.
- Length drops by at least 30%. If it does not shrink, the repetition is still there.
- Do not add new information. Only compress what exists.
STEP 4 — CHECK
Give me two numbers: old word count, new word count. Plus one line: what was the biggest repeat you removed?
Write in English.
Repetition is a symptom of an unmeasured instruction. Give the model an exit condition and the loop disappears.
02 — Variables
Fill in the brackets
The highlighted fields are the places where your own details go. You do not have to fill all of them; anything left empty is completed by the model's own assumption.

03 — How to use
How to use it, step by step
- 01
Repetition usually appears when you set a length target. "Write 1000 words" makes the model fill once the information runs out; ask for a section count instead of a word count.
- 02
Paste the text as-is and do not tell it where the repeat is — let it find its own. What it finds often includes things you missed.
- 03
If you do give a length, give a range ("800-900 words"), never a single number. A single number creates fill pressure.
- 04
If repetition persists, raise the temperature to 0.7-0.9 when calling the API. Low temperature makes loops more likely, not less.
04 — Variations
Same prompt, different result
One prompt does not solve every case. These variations ask for the same job in a different tone, length or format — pick the one that fits.
Hard compression
Same analysis, then rewrite to no more than 40% of the original length. Keep every number and every named entity. Drop every example that is not load-bearing.
Turning a long draft into speaking notes.
Detector only
Do STEP 1 and STEP 2 only. Do not rewrite. Give me a table: quote | repeat type | how many times | first location.
When you want a diagnosis, not a rewrite.
05 — Tips
Notes that take the result up a level
- A model looping is usually one thing: it has nothing new to say but no permission to stop. "Stop when you are done" beats "do not repeat yourself".
- Low temperature increases repetition. If you are calling the API, nudge it up to 0.7-0.9.
- For list requests, "give me at least 10 items" pushes the model to invent and repeat once it has found six. Specify scope, not count.
06 — FAQ
Frequently asked about AI Errors
Why does the model write the same thing over and over?
Two causes. Context: in a long conversation the model can see its own last sentence, and continuing it looks most probable — a self-feeding loop. Target: a quota like "1000 words" makes it circle back when the information runs out. The fixes are different — new chat for the first, shorter target for the second.
Why does repetition get worse in long conversations?
Every reply re-reads the whole conversation, so the model's own previous sentences become the nearest and most probable continuation. After 20-25 messages, starting a fresh chat and carrying over a summary cuts it noticeably.
Is a repeating model broken?
No, it is normal behaviour. But if it loops at the same point every time on the same prompt, the prompt is ambiguous there — usually an unmeasured instruction like "explain in detail". Adding a limit fixes it.
