STEP 01
Download your data first (recommended)
Go to Instagram > Your activity > Download your information. Your photos and messages are archived and emailed to you.
Deletion is irreversible. The archive can take up to 48 hours — wait for it before deleting.
STEP 02
Open the deletion page
Go to instagram.com/accounts/remove/request/permanent and sign in.
STEP 03
Choose a reason
Pick a reason from the dropdown. It's required, but no option blocks the deletion.
STEP 04
Enter your password and delete
Type your password and click 'Delete my account permanently'. The confirmation screen shows the deletion date.
STEP 05
Know the 30-day window
The account is flagged for deletion and removed 30 days later. Logging in during this period cancels the request.
Signing in undoes the deletion. Don't open the app for 30 days.
