Step-by-step fix

  1. Download DirectX End-User Runtime

    Get dxwebsetup.exe from Microsoft's official page (microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35).

Run file verification/repair from Steam, Epic Games etc. Broken DLL copies are replaced automatically.

If MSVCP140.dll warnings accompany the error, install the Visual C++ 2015-2022 package too.

02 — FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01Which games throw D3DX9_43.dll errors?
Mostly pre-2010 DirectX 9 titles: older GTA, FIFA and Call of Duty releases and many classic shooters. Windows 10/11 doesn't include these components by default.
02Setup says DirectX is already installed?
dxwebsetup.exe adds only missing components and works independently of the installed version. 'No components needed' still means success.
03Does copying the DLL to System32 work?
It may appear to, but it's risky: wrong versions cause more errors and DLL sites can serve malware. The official installer places the right file in the right place.
