Cancel Xfinity: Close Your US Internet or TV Subscription Online

Short answer

You can only cancel Xfinity via live chat on xfinity.com or by calling 1-800-XFINITY — there is no self-serve cancel button. Check your contract end date, return equipment through UPS or an Xfinity Store, and verify prorated charges on the final bill.

01 — Step by Step

Step-by-step fix

  1. Check your contract status

Sign in at xfinity.com and open My Account > Billing > Contract details. If you are inside a one-year agreement an early termination fee may apply; the remaining schedule is shown on screen.

  2. Open live chat and type 'cancel'

Click the Chat icon on xfinity.com and type 'I want to cancel my service'. You are routed to a cancellation specialist. Save the transcript.

  3. Or call the phone line

Dial 1-800-XFINITY (1-800-934-6489) and say 'cancel service'. Hold times can be long; recording your own call is legal in the US and serves as evidence.

  4. Be ready for retention offers

The specialist may offer discounted plans or temporary promos. If you are sure, say 'No, please cancel everything' and always request a cancellation reference number.

  5. Return equipment and check the final bill

Drop modem/router and TV boxes at an Xfinity Store or hand them to UPS with the return label. The final bill is prorated; unreturned equipment is charged 100-500 $ per device.

02 — FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01Why can I only cancel Xfinity by phone or chat?
The company intentionally routes cancellations through customer service; there is no self-serve online cancellation. The two official channels are chat and phone.
02How much is the early termination fee?
It scales with the time left on your agreement; the current schedule appears under My Account > Contract. On monthly promo contracts you may owe remaining months × the discount.
03They billed me after cancellation — what do I do?
Call 1-800-XFINITY with your cancellation reference and request a refund. Charges after the cut-off date are prorated back; refunds can take 1-2 billing cycles.
