Show Wi-Fi Password: 4 Ways on Android, iPhone, Windows and Your Router

Short answer
On Android open Settings > Network > saved network > Share — the password appears under the QR code. On iPhone (iOS 16+) go to Settings > Wi-Fi > the network's Password field (Face ID required). On Windows use Wireless Properties > Show characters; on your router, the Wi-Fi settings page displays it. Being connected to the network is enough — no root or PC needed.

STEP 01
Show it from a saved network on Android
Go to Settings > Network & internet > Internet. Tap the gear icon next to the connected network, then press 'Share'. A QR code appears with the network password written below it. Letting the other person scan the QR is faster than reading the password aloud.
On Samsung the path differs slightly: Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > gear next to the network > QR code (password printed underneath).

Open the password field on iPhone/iPad
On iOS 16+ go to Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the 'i' next to the connected network and tap the 'Password' row — authenticate with Face ID to reveal and copy it. On iOS 18 the same data lives under Settings > Passwords > Wi-Fi and syncs across your devices.

View the saved key on Windows
Right-click the Wi-Fi icon in the taskbar and open 'Network and Internet settings' > 'Advanced network settings' > 'More network adapter options'. Double-click your Wi-Fi adapter, choose 'Wireless Properties' > 'Security' tab and tick 'Show characters' to reveal the network security key.

Check the router panel
Type 192.168.1.1 into a browser and sign in to the router panel (credentials are usually printed on the label under the router). The 'Wireless / Wi-Fi Settings' page lists the SSID and password in plain text. You can change the password here; all devices must reconnect afterwards.
If you never changed the admin password, the factory one is on the label. Personalizing it blocks panel access attempts from neighboring networks.

Share with guests via QR
On Android, have the guest scan the QR from the Share screen with their camera. On iPhone, open Settings > Wi-Fi and let the guest's iOS 11+ device come near your network name — their phone offers to join. If your router supports guest Wi-Fi, prefer creating a separate guest network instead of sharing your main password; your devices stay isolated.
Tips
- Screenshot the QR and keep it in a secure notes app; update the screenshot whenever the password changes.
- On routers with guest networking, never hand out the main password: the guest network shields file sharing and cameras on your devices.
- Changing the password disconnects smart TVs and IoT devices — do it at night and re-enter the new password on every device.

Can I see the Wi-Fi password without being connected?
Yes on most devices, as long as the network is saved: Android lists past networks in the Internet screen, iPhone stores every saved network under Settings > Passwords > Wi-Fi, and Windows netsh works for saved profiles too.
Where does iPhone store Wi-Fi passwords?
On iOS 16+ in Settings > Wi-Fi > network > Password; on iOS 18 also under Settings > Passwords > Wi-Fi. After Face ID verification the password can be copied.
I forgot my Wi-Fi password — must I reset the router?
No. The router panel (192.168.1.1) shows it in plain text, which is safer than resetting. Only if you also forgot the admin password, factory-reset with the pinhole button and re-set up using the label defaults.
