STEP 01
Open the official deletion page
Open telegram.org/deactivate in a browser (not the app). This is Telegram's official account-deletion address — beware of fake copies.
STEP 02
Enter your phone number and confirm the code
Enter your number in international format (+1…). Telegram sends a confirmation code inside your Telegram app (not SMS) — type it into the page.
If the in-app code doesn't arrive, use the 'didn't receive code' option to switch to SMS. Keep the page open — the code arrives in the app you're about to delete.

State a reason and confirm
The page asks why you're leaving (optional). Press 'Delete My Account' and confirm the dialog.
This cannot be undone: chats, groups, channels and contacts are gone. Download important files first.
STEP 04
Verify the deletion
You're logged out after confirmation. If logging in with your number starts a 'new user' flow, the account is deleted.
STEP 05
Alternative: set the auto-delete timer
To avoid immediate deletion, set Privacy and Security > 'Delete my account if away for' to 1–24 months. No login within that period removes the account automatically.

- Download important files from Saved Messages before deleting.
- Transfer any owned groups first, or they may be left without an owner.
- If you might return, a 12–24 month auto-delete timer is safer than immediate deletion.
