Pixel 10 Fingerprint Sensor Not Working: Definitive Fixes

An under-display sensor sees everything on top of the screen: oil, moisture, dust and lotion residue ruin reads. Wipe the screen, the sensor area and your fingers with a dry microfiber cloth. Read accuracy drops with damp hands; keep your finger completely dry. This simple step alone closes a significant share of reported cases.

Thick, glass or bubbled protectors distort the optical sensor's focal distance. If a protector is on, check for lifting at the corners; if it doesn't sit flush against the glass, read errors are inevitable. Use thin protectors approved for the Pixel 10, or temporarily remove the protector to confirm it's the source.

Go to Settings > Security & privacy > Device unlock > Fingerprint and delete the existing record. When re-enrolling, press not just the center but the edges of your finger onto the screen, shifting position slightly each pass. Enrolling two different fingers (thumb and index) noticeably improves daily success. If an update is pending during enrollment, install it first.

Install pending updates under Settings > System > Software update; Google patches sensor issues regularly in the first months after launch. Restart the phone after updating. If the sensor gives no response at all (not even the touch animation), test in safe mode; if it works there, a third-party app conflicts — remove recently installed ones.

If the sensor never reads after all steps, hardware failure is possible. Run Pixel's built-in diagnostics (Settings > About phone > Diagnostics, or the Google Store app > Device diagnostics) and run the screen and biometric tests. On in-warranty devices the result serves as a service ticket; you can request a loaner during replacement.
